ORDO AB CHAO

The pursuit of true artistic integrity demands a resolute departure from the pitfalls of tainted individualism. The genuine essence of artistic pursuit lies in a profound and dedicated quest for exploration.

The ambition of emerging artistic movements, especially in painting but across all art forms, ought to disrupt the seamless blend between the swift vocabulary of mass society and the language of art. This disruption shall reintroduce the bedrock of truth at the very core of the image—the artwork itself.

Our grasp of reality, whether real or imagined, is influenced by the cultural frameworks we inhabit, sculpted as always by the productive processes within which we are enmeshed. This very process leaves an indelible mark on the notion of taste and consequently on how art is consumed.

Consider Impressionism, which by substituting depth with surface and substance with essence, encapsulated and transposed the intimate essence of industrialization into art. Similarly, movements like Pop Art and subsequent graphic experiments mirrored the skewed ethical standards of capitalism. Today, painting must strive to unearth the inherent contradictions within the abstract industrial process. In doing so, it aims for a definitive rupture that mirrors the reality: the decline of an alienating production model. Intent, rather than innovation alone, lies at the heart of art.

However, objective reality does exist, and we are an integral part of it. This remains an undeniable truth. Hence, the new artistic language must undergo both deconstructive and constructive phases to ascend to a new stature, much like the surrealist perspective did. It underscored the transformative potency of art in shaping and redefining reality into a vividly subjective experience.

"Creativity demands courage," as Matisse eloquently stated. It is the audacity in forging new paths and challenging established norms that cultivates genuine innovation and artistic evolution. The trajectory to follow aligns with Kandinsky's sentiment: "Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies."

This brings us to the question of engaging with the medium, much like the Cubists did at the outset, "eliminating ambiguity and enforcing a reading of the painting as a human-made construction and a canvas filled with color" (Gombrich). It's akin to flowing lava that perpetually changes its physical form.

Order from chaos: only disorder, automatism at its most accomplished junctures, will reintroduce the accurate gradient of realism to the image.

The essence of artistic expression no longer resides within defined boundaries but within its integration into the broader tapestry of social existence. This will inevitably foster greater understanding among architects, painters, and sculptors, culminating in the creation of a non-figurative equivalent—a kin to temples for the Greeks and cathedrals for the Christians.
